Families and wannabe sailors are invited to get on the water for free as Sutton Sailing Club welcomes you to Try Sailing as part of the Sutton Coldfield Community Games on Saturday 7th July.
The club, on Powell’s Pool in Sutton Park, is opening its doors from 12pm-5pm and everyone is welcome to pop along and get afloat with the club’s experienced sailors.
Sailing is an awesome activity for the whole family and is something that can be done all together or as individuals. It can be ‘me time’ or relishing the challenge of learning a new skill for mums and dads, while kids love getting to mess about in boats with their friends. The fact it’s outdoors in the fresh air also ticks heaps of mental and physical wellbeing boxes for everyone.
For the equivalent of just £3.50 a week the whole family – that’s every spouse and kids under 18 – can be members at Sutton Sailing Club, and you don’t even need to own a boat to get afloat as the club have boats you can hire for as little as £3 a day. What else could you do as a family for as little as that?
Gareth Brookes, RYA Midlands Regional Development Officer, said:
“We’re super excited to be giving more people the chance to have a go at something new this summer. Our national Push The Boat Out ‘try sailing’ festival throughout May saw thousands of people across the Midlands have a go for the first time, with hundreds joining clubs and signing up to learn to sail on the spot. To extend that and welcome people to Sutton again is brilliant.”
Hot and cold food will be available all day. Just bring soft soled shoes you don’t mind getting wet and a sense of adventure! For full event details go to www.rya.org.uk/trysailing
