Royal Sutton Coldfield has received a Silver Gilt award for its 2018 entry into the Heart of England in Bloom.
This was the first year the Royal Town has entered Heart of England In Bloom, which judges towns on their floral and horticultural features.
The judges base their marking on horticultural achievements, environmental responsibility and community involvement.
Councillor Terry Wood chaired the Sutton in Bloom Working Group and attended the presentation event. He commented:
“This is a fantastic achievement for a first time entry. I am immensely proud of what has been achieved by all parts of our community, for the RHS Heart of England Bloom Competition.
“The amount of hard work and effort that had been put into our first Sutton in Bloom entry was clearly visible in the displays throughout the Royal Town. We were able to give the judges a real taste of our parks and gardens, woodland and heritage sites. I was really pleased with the displays in the Town Hall which greatly impressed the judges.
“The Silver Gilt award is a reflection of the relationships developed and the goodwill formed amongst volunteers, residents, community groups, schools and businesses within the community to help each other achieve this. I look forward to 2019, when I hope we can build on the success and lessons of 2018. I’d love to aim for a Gold!”
